the verb “Love” …

(not the noun “knowledge”)

Oh God how do I grow up so as not

to need to be displaying what I know.

I seem to love the learning that I've got

to do already, and I want to show

it off to other people, or just be

somehow acknowledged by the folk around.

I'm wondering about, and think I see,

a way to find, & yet still not be found

by others in the act of knowing stuff.

I think that maybe that’s one reason why

you hide yourself. It may not be enough,

but might be part of your “means”, so you spy

on us through ev’ry person who looks on.

It's like you hide in ev'ry one you made,

and love to view it all, before they’re gone,

through point of view they have. The colour/ shade

that their eyes see, and what they pick up too

of motives and the secret acts affect-

-ing any other - one or thing, as do

all acts, undone, or done, which we’d expect

from someone who’s a son or daughter of

a person who could think and speak and make

the heavens and the earth and call them “tov*”

who doesn’t need to eat, but loves to bake.

As I look at the way you love in truth,

not wanting folk’s attention, but to see

the world through their eyes. I want to be cooth

as you, our Father. Help me so to be.

Footnote
v* - “tov” is the Hebrew word translated into English as “good”, 7 times in Genesis chapter One, in the phrase “God saw that it was …good”.
