LESS ON (, lesson, listen) UP!
I start to see just how to share life more
intuitively, and less woodenly.
I love to sit here in your presence for
you know me fully, and develop me!
You are above me, not just on my par.
You know your friends, but also know your facts.
You woke me up, and romanced me this far.
These trysts are now my life blood, sparking acts..
The kind of acts which kind-le thoughtfulness
that never would have come into my mind,
that stretch me to my limits, and make mess,
creative, altruistic, “look & find”.
They have the knack of knowing before known,
but willing, open up to all that comes
in such a way that does not swamp. As shown
by life of that young carpenter, with “bums”
and “bludgers”, people who don’t fit the sys-
tem, spilling out his life blood, day by day.
His energy and effort might have missed
‘em, but he wouldn’t miss ‘is time ta pray.
And now, I see the ways you taught him well,
to wake up, and you’re doing it with me.
I’m glad of those ol’ prophet's words1 that dwelt
in scrolls, in caves, around that old Dead Sea:
That Yahweh’s servant is himself waked up1
by Dad in mornings (like a three year old).
And being taught the import of “the cup”,
both inside and then outside he is bold.
“The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away. I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me! It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me. Who will condemn me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths will eat them up.”
“Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God.”
“But now, all you who light fires and provide yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of your fires and of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from my hand: you will lie down in torment.” (Isaiah 50:4-11 NIVUK)
