so when a seed's life ends & it's buried....

The one who made the eucalyptus tree
did also make the seed from which it grew
The first one is not hard for us to see,
the second is more difficult to do.

For on each seed-capsule a tiny mark
shows where the capsule opens when it dries,
and as it dries up seeds fall and embark
on journeys to the earth, reaching to skies.

But strangely if you followed up each seed
it changes quite completely body-wise,
at first it is a speck that blows, no need
for water, soil or sunlight in the skies.

If that was all you knew of eucalypts
you'd think they were small, subtle things you found
amongst the soil and debree of humous
that's blown, and washed, and moved along the ground.

But strangely when that speck of seed loses
its options to move all around the place
and then gets buried where another chooses
a deeper magic grows another face

that seeks the sun with ev'ry leaf it grows
and books of leaves tell stories, grow plant food
and capture sunlight to make wood that shows
the seasons past, and shelters - for a brood

of other life, both animals and plants.
The humans' cooking fires, or  building needs,
koalas, aphids, birds and bees and ants,
are beneficiaries of buried seeds.
