In fact, he may have gotten a little carried away. … He said, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will hurt you.”
Quoted by Nick Sommerville in "On the road with Jesus…"
Then Satan fell from heaven like a flash
of lightning (that is pow'rful, and destroys
with bush-fi-res, that turn all into ash),
and soon after, there comes a crunching noise.
The spirit of creative love came down
and fluttered as a dove of peace and hope,
and settling, rested on the one from town
of Nazareth, who joined up with the dopes
who wouldn't hide their failures and their flaws,
their immaturities, and fallings-short,
but spoke them out in public then because:
a voice spoke out, from God, who never sought
to get attention for himself apart
from as a signpost pointing to the one
who was before, but came behind, with heart
of God, for ev'ry daughter, ev'ry son;
who said that was the way to "On your Mark!
Get ready! (- for the visit that's to come,
of He who would bring people from the dark
& into light, he'd wash them clean by some
some way that water (John used,) symbolized.
He'd wash, anoint, appoint folk, inside out!
Not from those outside rituals. Surprised,
folk who returned from "out there" danced about.
And when some roaring wind, and tongues of fire
came later on, from Heaven to God's Earth,
it also landed on, not people hired,
but borne from breath above, to speak God's worth.
