My God, I do deplore my own habit -
resistance to the turning of my head
to look upwards. Sim’lar to a rabbit
who doesn’t see the eagle, ‘coz instead
it’s looking at the grass (or rabbit's arse),
it misses some dimensions to its world
that are above it. Burrows, underpass-
es, in an “ostrich” way. I won’t be hurled
into a 3D place, except by chance,
or programming of instinct. Help me out!
Well, “Help me ‘from above’.” It’s like a dance
that I would like to learn - to not just pout.
It’s true that I can look out on all space
from inside my own head. But up (not down)
is quite another thing. I would not trace
what’s looking up, though I don’t mind a frown.
This is the way of me, that needs to die.
I start to see the wisdom of the cross
of Christ, who didn’t need, deserve, (or try),
to get death, as though just to suffer loss
was worth-while on its own; but as a gift,
a “will” to take on from a greater One,
a cup to drink that doesn’t give a lift
in feelings, but done as a loving son.
A lifting of his eyes up to the who
did not appear, or make quite visible,
his care in that-there moment, but would do
what he deemed “good”. Love’s indivisible.

… and blessed (God), broke the bread and gave it to his disciples to distribute to the people. (Jesus, after telling his disciples to feed the people they said they were so concerned for. Mark 6)
…, gave a loud groan, looked back at the man, and said “Ephatha” [which is Aramaic for “Open Up!”]. (Jesus, after a deaf man with a speech impediment was brought to him to do the “usual” Authoritative Rabbi thing to. Mark 7)
… and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you – [2] just as you have given him authority over all humanity, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him. [3] Now this is eternal life – that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent. [4] I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. [5] And now, Father, glorify me at your side with the glory I had with you before the world was created. (John 17:1-5)
