Responding re: spending the times of our lives

It seems like one quite pointy point for me,

or point of pain, no, more a diff’culty,

or cause of angst, a niggle that returns,

a rub I feel, through which I hope to learn

somehow, since God’s determined that I will.

I’ve learned that growth means change, not staying still.

Except when that denotes the times I need

to do just that; my senior partner heed.

For partnerships with humans (or with God),

are often not of “equals”, but still what

’simportant to them working is this thing:

to keep your word, and play the part you bring

with you into this partnership for Good.

Full knowing that at times the other could

not guarantee that much, they’re immature.

But you must still do what you must endure

to play the part of senior partner while

you “train” your partner, keeping wide your smile..

When you’re the junior partner, it behoves

you to ensure your senior’s hopes proposed,

are heard & listened to, not batted back

as though you are the king, and they’re the jack.

I s’pose I mean there is reality

and by that we can grow in truth, you see,

The virtual can help, aid & abett,

make ready for the real that is not yet,

But when the real drops in to say “Hello!”

that is the time to recognise it so.

And when I try to put my NOW to words

it gives some push back. As you may have heard

some things must be perceived and clearly seen,

the next step’s not description, but to lean

hard then upon the brake, when light's turned red.

The point is not describing what’s been said,

but acting truly, right, in line with lore,

convention, and the reasons they’re there for.

My “left brain” likes describing, does it well.

Well, well enough to play it’s part, ’gainst hell!

But it must see it doesn’t try to wrest

perception from the part that does that best.

And keep the partnership in place, unfurled,

as lovely gift that it is to the world.

And let perception lead to action as

it’s meant to. Oh my God, it’s love that has

the only chance to lead to gratefulness.

Creative love, that made us, and then blessed

us with your “seeing”, then your “naming” too.

We would as image/ child, partner with you.

Notes:

  • ”But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield.“ (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬) There (& in the verses before these) are the proper responses to disaster, difficulty, blessing, and favour, ( as James pulls out of this passage, or one’s like it (”Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.“ ‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬)

  • Our talent for division, for seeing the parts, is of staggering importance – second only to our capacity to transcend it, in order to see the whole’ Iain McGilchrist author of Book noting  new observations & theories of the function of the left & right brain hemispheres and the way they can work together well. It paints a picture that is for me a great analogy of how humans are meant to function with and under God: e.g. Ian McGilchrist's book: The Master and His Emissary, which proposes a picture (derived with the benefit of many studies) of the Right Brain Hemisphere being partly specialized for attention to & understanding of the world we live in, and our place within it, it is paired with its Left Brain Hemisphere which is partly specialized to understand & make language, categorize, and break complex tasks down to chunks that are achievable. Both are needed to affect the world well, and need to communicate through the part that joins the two hemispheres (the corpus callosum). Without the RHS, the LHS is myopic and constrained, more like technology without the ability to consider what is best from an overall perspective (I climbed the ladder, but it was on the wrong wall).. Without the LHS the views of the world and new potentialities which the RHS perceives, are not achieved, and made reality. Some of the ways the brain hemispheres work together are by transmitters that inhibit activity in other parts of the brain, and especially in a similar part on the other side. This inhibition is not to be confused with the inhibition produced by a parasite which does not contribute, but only sucks life from its host.
