found it!… that bit oft quoted by Mr. L. Follent, when asked about his marriage to his beautiful wife, in the second poem by the Australian poet C.J. Dennis, at the turn of the 20th Century - "Logic & spotted dog" (spotted dog seems to be a kind of food):
"I am marri'd to a woman; which is nacheral an' right.
I sez that over to meself, fer safety, day an' night.
Most times I sez it fond an' proud wiv gladness in me mind;
But sometimes philosophic-like an' wot yeh'd call resigned..."
