first birthday as a dad!

Well Gil's first birthday as a dad has come,
with two girls in his life now, he may well
be luckier than many (at least some);
sure he won't want to brag, but time will tell.

So Hannah first appeared, then Miss Polly,
along with moving house (and jobs as well)
from Coast to Central West - 'snot all "jolly";
but he's done jolly well as you can tell!

And now another year we mark down on
the tally that is his (but we can't see)
that's getting closer to the day upon
which he will leave this body, & be free -

not because all physical is evil, 
so, more because what's mortal's "swallowed up",
as a small seed is "swallowed" by tendrils
of what it grows into, as life erupts.

Some asked to learn to number all their days,
that they may learn to live with wisdom here*,
and now that Polly's come to see your face
full "term" is over, "she" starts to appear!

Her "Mum" & "Dad" may one day soon be call'd
by her, with interactions before that,
and though she will quite often be appalled
you need not pass the "compliment" straight back.

And as you learn to care for Hannah too
& love her (as she is) - as true husband -
somehow you'll learn about responding to
a greater lover's wooing and "demands".


* Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
