[Paul, with stories from Beth & Bevan Walker, Annabelle & Matt Walls (& Arthur), and Katrina the lovely]
(20 May 2026)
Today my Dad & Mum flew down to stay
for one week here in Orange, in the cold,
from coastal place that’s called Runaway Bay
in Northern Sunshine State. “We’re getting old”
they say, “But don’t get old yourself…”
Mum said that this day started off with stress;
she packed a larger “port” as nightly elf.
An early start, and then rested as best
she could in plane while travelling quite fast.
Their neighbours drove them to the plane at first,
and baby Arthur screamed with them at last.
And then we sat and talked, till we might burst…
We talked about a sleep-in for the morn-
ing following, coz some people were crook
who’d normally join for breakfast after dawn.
And little Orange ear-plugs they both took.
They wandered down the back steps, to arrive
at studio for visitors and such.
And took the code (by text) to get inside,
A fam’ly’s set to teach us very much..
but specially ‘bout the love that goes beyond
our own world, to include someone (not us)
and care for them as if they had belonged
here with us. Sometimes that means making fuss.
And then I s’pose it’s letting love-light grow
as indicator of another way
at odds with what our culture seems to know.
Then God with his own fam’ly’s on display!
